About Rotate PDF

Rotate PDF turns pages a quarter or half turn and writes that turn into the file, so the page opens the right way up in every reader, on every device, for everyone you send it to. That is the difference from the rotate button in a PDF viewer, which usually turns only your screen and forgets it when the file closes. Every page appears as a thumbnail that turns as you click, so a scan with one sideways table or a duplex batch with every back page upside down can be fixed page by page or in one go. Only the page's rotation setting changes. Text stays selectable, images keep their original quality, and bookmarks, links and form fields stay in the file.

The guide behind this tool

Rotating a PDF: Why the Page Turns Back When You Reopen It

The rotate button in most viewers turns your screen, not the file. How a page stores its orientation as one number, and why duplex scans flip every other page.

How to use Rotate PDF

  1. 1

Drop a PDF onto the box or click it to choose one. Every page appears as a thumbnail, drawn the way readers currently show it.

  2. 2

Click a page to turn it 90° to the right, or use the arrows under it to turn it either way. A label on the page shows how far it has been turned.

  3. 3

To turn many pages at once, leave the page box empty for all of them, press Odd or Even, or type pages such as 2-5, 9. Then press Left, Right or 180°.

  4. 4

Check the thumbnails. If something went wrong, Undo all turns puts every page back the way it came in.

  5. 5

Press the download button. The rotated PDF downloads under the original name with _rotated added and stays available for a second download.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most PDF viewers have a rotate button that turns the view, not the file. Adobe Acrobat, for instance, separates Rotate View, which lasts until the file is closed, from rotating the pages themselves. A rotation saved here is written into each page, so it is still there the next time the file opens, in any program.
