Strikethrough Text Generator

Cross out, underline or slash through text in apps that have no formatting of their own

0 characters

These are Unicode characters, not fonts, so they paste into bios, captions and display names on almost every platform. Handles are the exception: no major platform accepts them there. X counts most of them as two characters each, and screen readers may spell them out letter by letter or skip them. Check a styled post in the social media character counter before you publish it.

About Strikethrough Text Generator

The Strikethrough Text Generator draws a line through your text for apps that cannot format it, such as X, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok. It does not replace your letters. It adds an invisible combining mark after each one: U+0336 for strikethrough, U+0332 for underline, U+0333 for a double underline and U+0338 for a slash. Spaces get the mark too, so the line runs across the gaps between words rather than stopping and starting. Because every character gains a mark, the text is twice as long underneath, and X counts every one of those marks.

How Copy and Paste Strikethrough Really Works

Pasted strikethrough is an invisible mark after every letter. It doubles your length on X, breaks search, and tells a screen reader nothing at all.

Frequently Asked Questions

Each letter gets its own short line, drawn by the font. In some fonts the line is slightly narrower than the letter, which leaves hairline gaps, most visibly beside wide letters like m and w.
